Born in Switzerland in 1920, Burri fled to Argentina for political reasons and became a renowned photographer and documentary filmmaker. He joined the French resistance and was arrested by the Gestapo in 1942 and spent three years in prison camps. After his release, he went underground to work with the French Resistance. On his capture by the Nazis, he was sent to Dachau, where he was severely tortured
He escaped, but was recaptured and sent to Buchenwald. After liberation, he took part in the Nuremberg Trials as an interpreter.
